The fourth book in the Windrush series sees Jack in India, the land of his birth.

Still with the 113th Foot, Jack is heavily involved in the Indian Mutiny, when the sepoys of the  Honourable East India Company mutinied against British Rule. As Jack marches and fights his way through India, he learns more about his past than he wishes to.  Jack's 113th Foot forms part of the relief column under General Henry Havelock, where

he helps in the first relief of Lucknow and meets some people who knew him many years before. How will Jack cope with these revelations about his life?
